Nestled behind a 1950s home in Austin’s Menchaca neighborhood, this project’s focus was to provide maximum flexibility, livability, and sustainability in a minimal footprint.
Recent trends toward remote work & multi-generational living, coupled with Austin’s complex land development regulations led us to split the residence into two discreet volumes. The two-story residence contains the primary bedrooms, baths, kitchen and living spaces, while just across the yard, connected by a covered walkway, a flexible studio space allows for a wide array of potential uses.
Expansive, thoughtfully oriented glazing provides ample daylight and visual connection across the outdoor living spaces.
The home also features high-efficiency systems, durable exterior materials, and provides excellent indoor air quality. It was awarded 5-star certification (the maximum) by the Austin Energy Green Building program.
